Because self-catering is about relaxing, indulging & finding the perfect balance.

When you stay in a Tucked Away cottage, self-catering doesn’t mean you have to cook every meal from scratch. For us, it’s about balance. Stocking the fridge with local treats for lazy mornings and heading out to discover the Cotswolds’ best breakfast and brunch spots when the mood takes you. Here are some of our favourite places near our cottages to start the day right.

The Old Post Office, Guiting Power

Tucked in the heart of Guiting Power, this cosy café-deli hybrid is perfect for a relaxed breakfast. Expect great coffee, buttery pastries, and a menu filled with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It’s also a lovely spot to pick up deli items for later.

Best for: A classic Cotswold village vibe with simple, delicious food.

The Cotswold Guy, Guiting Power

Right in the same village, The Cotswold Guy is a foodie gem that locals and visitors alike rave about. With top-notch produce and a menu that champions quality, it’s the place to grab an indulgent bacon bap, fresh sourdough, or a hearty brunch before heading out to explore.

Best for: Indulgent breakfasts made with the finest local ingredients.

Hailes Fruit Farm Café

On the edge of Winchcombe, Hailes Fruit Farm is all about seasonal produce. Their café serves wholesome breakfasts with fruit from the orchards when in season, and you can stock up on juices, jams, and chutneys for your cottage pantry.

Best for: Fresh air, fruit picking (in season), and relaxed family mornings.

Dunkertons Cider & La Boulangerie, Cheltenham

A slightly longer trip, but worth it. Dunkertons Cider isn’t just about cider- it’s also home to La Boulangerie Artisan, serving exceptional French pastries and breads. Grab buttery croissants, fresh baguettes, or pain au chocolat, then perhaps a bottle of organic cider for later.

Best for: A decadent brunch treat and pastries to bring back to the cottage or munch right there and then.

Stow-on-the-Wold – The Hive

For something central and buzzy, The Hive in Stow-on-the-Wold is a long-standing favourite. Expect stacks of pancakes, full English breakfasts, and excellent veggie options. It’s perfect if you’re staying nearby at Parsons Barn and fancy a morning stroll into town.

Best for: A proper sit-down brunch with generous portions.

Daylesford Organic, Kingham

It wouldn’t be a Cotswold foodie list without Daylesford. Their café serves fresh juices, organic cooked breakfasts, and delicious pastries from their bakery. If you’re in the mood to linger, order brunch, then browse the farm shop for supplies to take back to your cottage.

Best for: A chic, organic farm-to-table breakfast experience.

Eating In vs Eating Out – Find Your Balance

The beauty of a self-catering stay is choice. Some mornings are for staying in your pyjamas, frying eggs, and enjoying local bread with a pot of tea in your cottage kitchen. Other mornings are for heading out, letting someone else cook, and soaking up the buzz of a café.

At Tucked Away, we believe in mixing the two. Stock your cottage with farm shop goodies, then treat yourself to a few special breakfasts out. After all, holidays are about slowing down, indulging, and enjoying the best of both worlds.

Eat in, eat out- just don’t skip breakfast. In the Cotswolds, it’s too good to miss.

Testimonials

What our guests have said

“We had a lovely stay at Charlotte's. My husband and I travelled with our 2 year old and my mum and it was the perfect layout for us. Being close to the shops and restaurants made it easy to explore and there are lot of local kid-friendly attractions a short drive away. We'll be returning for sure!"

Parsons Barn

“This was a lovely property for a chilled weekend with my friends. We were really impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was as it meant we could cook a nice dinner with ease. We loved the location as there was a pub a few steps away and was in short driving distance to lots of attractions like Daylesford. My dog particularly enjoyed the walking routes from the town that took him to big fields to play fetch!”

Cotswold Cottage

“The perfect get-away for our family holiday in the perfect place. The house is located right in the centre of Stow on the Wold so all the gorgeous pubs and shops are just a stones throw away. The house was immaculate and had so many facilities. All rooms were a generous size and beds super comfy. The hosts even allowed us to check in a few hours early and we arrived to a fresh loaf of bread and milk in the fridge. 10/10 the perfect stay.”
