Antiquing in The Cotswolds

If you love beautiful old things, quiet discovery and the feeling of finding something special that’s been waiting just for you, then you’ll love antiquing in the Cotswolds.

Between rolling hills, stone villages and cobbled market squares, this part of England is full of antique shops, art dealers and vintage finds. Whether you’re a serious collector or simply enjoy a good browse, a day spent exploring Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, and Winchcombe is a gentle reminder that the best treasures aren’t always new.

Morning: Coffee and Curios in Stow-on-the-Wold

Start your day in Stow-on-the-Wold- the antiques capital of the Cotswolds. Its historic market square is home to more than a dozen shops and galleries, each with its own personality.

Begin at Tara Antiques Centre, where over 30 dealers showcase everything from Georgian furniture and fine art to vintage silver and textiles. It’s easy to lose track of time here, wandering between rooms filled with character and charm.

A short stroll around the square brings you to Lansdowne Antiques and Broadway Antiques, both filled with pieces that reflect the Cotswolds’ timeless style.

When you’re ready for a pause, stop by The Old Stocks Inn for a coffee or grab a flat white to go from Coach House Coffee and carry on exploring.

Midday: Craft and Character in Chipping Campden

Next, take the scenic 20-minute drive to Chipping Campden. Known for its graceful High Street and connection to the Arts and Crafts movement, it’s a beautiful place to combine shopping with a stroll.

Pop into Hart Gold and Silversmiths, where traditional craftsmanship still thrives in the last surviving Guild of Handicraft workshop. Their silver and jewellery are hand-forged right here and are a living link to Chipping Campden’s creative heritage.

For more traditional antiques, browse Kendall House Antiques or the Campden Antiques Centre, where you’ll find period furniture, glassware and decorative pieces. Even window-shopping here is a pleasure.

Afternoon: Hidden Gems in Winchcombe

For a slower pace, finish your day in Winchcombe- a charming medieval town with a quietly creative energy.

The Winchcombe Antiques Centre is a must-visit: a lovely warren of rooms brimming with furniture, china, glass and curios that tell their own stories. Take your time here, there’s always a hidden gem tucked behind a chair or under a stack of books.

Afterwards, wander the High Street’s independent shops and galleries, or stretch your legs with a visit to Sudeley Castle just outside town. When you’re ready for tea and something sweet, head to The Old Bakery for refreshments – they are also licensed if you fancy a cheeky glass of wine.

Evening: Back at the Cottage

There’s nothing quite like coming back to your cottage with a few treasures in hand, maybe a vintage mirror for your hallway, a ceramic jug for wildflowers, or just the memory of a lovely day spent exploring.

Settle in by the fire, pour a glass of wine, and admire your finds. That’s what antiquing in the Cotswolds is all about - slowing down, noticing the details, and bringing a little piece of history home with you.

Antiquing Tips

• Arrive early… the best finds go fast.
• Bring cash and a tape measure- not every dealer takes cards, and furniture sizes can surprise you.
• Chat to the shopkeepers- they know their stock (and sometimes have secret pieces 'out back').
• Make a weekend of it- there’s plenty to explore, from local walks to cosy pubs.

What our guests have said

“We had a lovely stay at Charlotte's. My husband and I travelled with our 2 year old and my mum and it was the perfect layout for us. Being close to the shops and restaurants made it easy to explore and there are lot of local kid-friendly attractions a short drive away. We'll be returning for sure!"

“This was a lovely property for a chilled weekend with my friends. We were really impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was as it meant we could cook a nice dinner with ease. We loved the location as there was a pub a few steps away and was in short driving distance to lots of attractions like Daylesford. My dog particularly enjoyed the walking routes from the town that took him to big fields to play fetch!”

Cotswold Cottage

“The perfect get-away for our family holiday in the perfect place. The house is located right in the centre of Stow on the Wold so all the gorgeous pubs and shops are just a stones throw away. The house was immaculate and had so many facilities. All rooms were a generous size and beds super comfy. The hosts even allowed us to check in a few hours early and we arrived to a fresh loaf of bread and milk in the fridge. 10/10 the perfect stay.”
